Yesterday, July 20th, 2024. The Riverside Kent Family Hub in Gravesend was alive with the vibrant spirit of the BHA event, a celebration that highlighted the power of community and the importance of health and wellbeing. With over 200 guests, including families of all ages, the event was a resounding success, showcasing a collaborative effort with ThriveTogether to promote preventive health care.
ThriveTogether played a pivotal role in this event by facilitating the presence of the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust public health van. This mobile unit provided essential health checks and free Health MOTs to attendees. The NHS Health Check is a critical screening program aimed at preventing serious conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, stroke, and dementia. It offers a comprehensive assessment of risk factors and provides valuable lifestyle advice and referrals where necessary.
Preventive health care is vital. It empowers individuals to take control of their health, catch potential issues early, and make informed decisions about their wellbeing. Contrary to the myth that ignorance is bliss, understanding one’s health status is a powerful tool in preventing long-term illnesses and improving quality of life. At the BHA event, it was heartening to see many attendees stepping forward to get their health checks, breaking down barriers and dispelling myths.
The event featured a range of engaging activities for different age groups, ensuring that everyone, from children to seniors, had something to enjoy. The atmosphere was one of unity and community spirit, reflecting the core values of ThriveTogether.
ThriveTogether’s mission is to empower Black individuals in Kent by promoting health awareness, providing access to resources, and fostering a supportive community. The success of the event is a testament to the impact that collaboration and community engagement can have on public health. ThriveTogether continues to build on this momentum, aiming to create more opportunities for preventive health care and community support.
