The Kent & Medway Black Health Inequalities Summit brings together an exceptional group of leaders shaping health, safety, opportunity, and wellbeing across systems and communities.<\/p>

From national regulators and NHS system leaders to elected representatives, policing, clinicians, historians, youth advocates, and faith-based practitioners, our speakers reflect the Summit\u2019s commitment to\u00a0credible leadership, lived experience, and place-based action<\/strong>.<\/p>

Together, they bridge evidence and reality\u2014challenging systems, amplifying Black voices, and co-creating practical solutions to improve life outcomes for Black residents across Kent and Medway.<\/p>

\n\nProfessor Bola Owolabi is a nationally recognised clinical and system leader at the forefront of England\u2019s health equity agenda. As Chief Inspector at the Care Quality Commission, she shapes how quality, access, and equity are assessed across primary and community care. Formerly NHS England\u2019s Director of Health Inequalities, she led the development of\u00a0Core20PLUS5, embedding accountability for reducing health disparities across Integrated Care Systems. A practising GP by background, she brings deep frontline insight alongside national regulatory influence. With extensive experience in mentoring and organisational development, she is passionate about creating pathways that support confidence, progression, and equity. \n\nSue Alder is a director at EK360 and works closely with Healthwatch Kent and Medway, and Local Authorities, bringing extensive experience in insight, evaluation, and community engagement across health and care systems. Her work focuses on ensuring that the voices of residents particularly those least heard\u2014are captured, analysed, and used to inform meaningful service improvement.\n\nSue brings strong expertise in independent evaluation, co-production, and qualitative insight, supporting systems to move beyond anecdote towards structured learning and accountability. She is widely respected for her ability to translate lived experience into actionable recommendations for commissioners, providers, and system leaders.\n\nAt the Summit, Sue, alongside the Senior Consultants at EK360, will lead the independent evaluation of the event, capturing learning from the overall Summit and each Action Pod to ensure community voice directly informs future policy, commissioning, and practice.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Adanna Williams<\/h3>

Director (South East), NHS England | Regional Director for Workforce Strategy and Transformation<\/strong>
\n\nAt NHS England, Adanna leads teams to align regional workforce planning with national strategies. With over 20 years of NHS experience, she has also served as Deputy Director of Nursing for Professional and Systems Development and as Regional Director of Programmes for Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Autism, and SEND. As one of three National Programme Leads for the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme, she played a key role in delivering this historic effort. A registered mental health nurse practitioner and independent prescriber, Adanna combines clinical expertise with strategic leadership. She values empathy, collaboration, integrity, and inclusivity, driving innovation and closing gaps in patient care. Deeply committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), she chairs the South East Region BAME Network and contributes to the NHS\u2019s Global Majority Nursing strategy, earning recognition during Black History Month. An inspiring speaker, Adanna has hosted and presented at national and international conferences, including in Ghana, where she collaborated with the Ministry of Health and Education. Under his leadership, the ICB has prioritised tackling health inequalities through better use of data, partnership working, and engagement with lived experience. Shaun\u2019s work recognises the link between safety, wellbeing, and trust in public institutions. \n\nReverend Les Isaac OBE is an internationally respected faith leader, social entrepreneur, and community pioneer. He is the Founder of Street Pastors and President of the Ascension Trust, organisations that have mobilised thousands of trained volunteers across the UK and internationally to support safer communities through presence, listening, and practical care.\n\n For over two decades, Rev Isaac has championed a preventative, faith-led model of engagement\u2014working at the intersection of public safety, community trust, and social wellbeing. His work has brought churches into strategic partnership with local authorities, police, and health systems, demonstrating how faith communities can serve as trusted connectors and early intervention partners.\n\n At the Summit, Rev Isaac will contribute to the panel discussion, and to the Faith, culture, community and health partnerships workshop offering insight into how faith institutions can help bridge gaps between systems and communities\u2014strengthening trust, resilience, and collective responsibility for improved life outcomes for Black communities.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Detective Sergeant Irene Rose\u2011Muthanji<\/h3>

Central Referral Unit, Kent Police <\/strong>
\n\n\n\n\nOriginally from Kenya, Detective Sergeant Irene Rose\u2011Muthanji joined Kent Police in 2005, inspired by her father's 40\u2011year policing career and a deeply rooted commitment to serving diverse and often underrepresented communities. She qualified as a detective in 2009 and advanced to sergeant in 2020, reflecting her dedication, capability, and leadership across the organisation.\n\nAcross her two decades of service, Irene has worked in a range of critical and community\u2011centred roles, including CID, hate crime, and community safety. She has also served as both a community liaison officer and a schools officer, strengthening trust and communication between policing and local communities.\n\nSafeguarding the most vulnerable sits at the heart of Irene's career. She works closely with multi\u2011agency partners to secure sustainable, victim\u2011centred outcomes that uphold dignity and safety. Balancing the demands of policing with being a mother of two has brought its own challenges, but strong mentorship, personal resilience, and a supportive network have shaped her confidence and leadership style.\n\nIrene is passionate about strengthening trust between policing and the communities it serves\u2014especially those who may feel marginalised, overlooked, or unheard. Her guiding principle is simple and unwavering: treat every person with the same dignity, care, and fairness you would want for your own family.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Michelle Bramble<\/h3>

<\/strong>
\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Bramble brings over two decades of experience in adult and community education, shaped by a strong commitment to equity, collaboration, and inclusive learning.\n\nShe has delivered wide ranging training across Kent\u2014spanning teacher development in physical and mental health, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) sessions for tutors, staff teams, and both voluntary and statutory organisations.\nMichelle is Chair of Kent County Council\u2019s Staff Ethnic Diversity Forum, where she drives systemic change by engaging senior leaders and presenting strategic recommendations to strengthen organisational policy and practice. \n\nHer leadership was nationally recognised in November 2024 when she received the LGC Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion Award.\nIn 2015, she founded the North Kent Caribbean Network, promoting arts, health and education initiatives across the community. \n\nShe also serves as Chair of Cohesion Plus, an arts organisation producing vibrant cultural events that celebrate Kent\u2019s diversity.\nMichelle\u2019s long standing community service includes chairing the North Kent Police Independent Advisory Group (IAG) for Gravesend and Dartford, working closely with Kent Police to build trust and accountability\u2014particularly around Violence Against Women and Girls, Hate Crime, Stop and Search, and Use of Force. \n\nShe also chairs the Community Reference Group for the Kent Police Race Action Plan, ensuring that the voices and lived experiences of Black and minority ethnic communities meaningfully shape policing in Kent.\nIn recognition of her impactful voluntary work, Michelle received the High Sheriff of Kent Award in April 2025 for \u201cGreat and Valuable Services to the Community.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Kulbir Pasricha <\/h3>

Diverse Community Engagement & Relations Manager <\/strong>
\n\n\n\n\nKulbir Pasricha, is the Diverse Community Engagement and Relations Manager in Kent Police. She has worked in the public sector for over 37 years having practiced at operational, tactical and strategic levels. \n\nShe joined Kent Police in 1998 as a central crime reporting unit investigator and progressed to cover various roles including Area Diversity Manager, Community Liaison Coordinator, Domestic Abuse and Hate Crime Manager, Stop and Search, Strategic Hate Crime Lead. \n\nHer discretionary roles include Family Liaison Officer, Trauma Risk Management Practitioner and Carer Ambassador. Over the years her \u2018can do\u2019 approach has made a positive difference with diversity and community engagement, recognised through various awards including the Wainwright Trust Award\/National Criminal Justice Award, a finalist in the Chief Constable\u2019s Awards for The Phillip Pratt Award for Community Policing. In Sept 2017 she was the winner of the Asian Achievers Award under Uniform and Civil Category and separately the NRI Global Make a Change Award. \n\nIn her personal life, Kulbir is a carer for her mother but in her spare time she also enjoys helping people being their best and writing poetry.\n \nKulbir is honoured to be one of the speakers at this first Kent & Medway Black Health Summit where the Police working in partnership is key to safer, inclusive and stronger communities. Through this sustained partnership, Kulbir and a couple of colleagues will update you on our commitment to the Race Action Plan and how you can help to make a lasting difference.
